Why Go Greek And...

How To Make It The Best Decision Of Your College Life and Beyond.

So right now you're thinking to yourself, I don't really know if I should go Greek. It sounds kind of cool, but I don't know if it really fits my personality, and it costs a lot of money. I am here to tell you exactly why you should join a social greek organization.

First of all, I want to clarify that every sorority has something different to offer each girl, and going through rush you will naturally align with those who see eye to eye with you, and if you think money is an issue, look into the scholarship programs each sorority offers. A lot of times sororities will have scholarships that not only help you pay for your sorority bills, but will actually help with college tuition as well. So there is no reason not to go greek at this point so here are the why you should.

1)Sororities help build self-confidence. I do not care how successful you are at making friends. A sorority is a constant support system that will encourage you through any venture in your life. Beyond that the number of tips you get on talking to people in sorority rush will far surpass any class that teaches you how to present yourself in an interview. Rush on both sides of the table will teach you how to talk to people, and how to be liked by people. A life skill that will help you forever.

2)Networking. Every sorority will have hundreds of alumni that can help you get a job anywhere. You will meet more people through sorority sisters than you will meet on your own anyday. There are so many opportunities to help you prepare for your future.

3)Grades. You will never have to hunt for a study buddy again. Being in a sorority you instantly have access multiple people who are either in your class or have taken your class, and know how to help you succeed. A lot of sororities even keep up with old tests and homeworks that will help as a study tool.

4)Friends. Do not take this as an insult, but I know for a fact that being a GDI you will not meet as many people, and gain as many friends as you will being in the Greek system. I do not care how many societies you join outside of the greek system. Joining a sorority you instantly make 50-400 new sisters which leads to connections to more and more people everyday.

5)A sorority constantly challenges you to become a more experienced, well-rounded individual. There are so many times that a sister has volunteered me to go paint a set, interview for a campus organization's position, or go work a community service project that I otherwise would not commit the time to do. There is something special in having ssomeone that will  push you to the next level, and commit your time to doing something other than watching TV.

So yes you want to go greek now, how do you make it worth your while.

1)Meet every single girl in your sorority, know their name, and learn something about them that is important. I do not care how many girls are in your sorority, but it is so important to make a connection with everyone. If you want to create a true connection, and support system, knowing these girls and what they are about will allow you to feel comfortable going to any of them with help. My sorority requires this for initiation, and it makes everyone a lot closer as a unit.

2)Stay involved. It seems silly, but making sure you go to the house on a regular basis to just hang out, or ensuring that you go to chapter will help you stay close with girls, and you will get so much more out of the sorority. I do not know how to explain it, except to say you will get as much out of it as you put in.

3)Volunteer. You will see so many times that a sister will ask for volunteers for philanthropy tasks, organizing social events, helping clean after bid day, the list goes on and on. Lend a helping hand, and put an effort into making their life easier. You never know when that favor will be returned.

Harsh Truths Of Sorority Recruitment.

So this is specifically pertaining to incoming freshman or at least those going through sorority recruitment this year. I know I have done a lot of posts about how recruitment works, what to wear, and how to make your Facebook profile all ready. But this is just for the ladies who do hear rumors about sororities and what they might or might not do during their selection process.

I'm first going to kind of take you through the general process my sorority as well as many others go through when selecting girls that they want to invite back the following day.

TRUTH 1: Every girl that signs up to go through recruitment will be searched for profiles on Facebook, and Twitter, and any sight they can find information on you. They look heavily into pictures and literally every final detail they can find on you is put into their notes.

TRUTH 2: They will judge you solely by your photos.

TRUTH 3: They will toss a girl solely by her photos. That's why Facebook is so important. A lot of colleges have so many girls going through recruitment, and they know that there a plenty of potentially great girls even if you cut that list in half.

TRUTH 4: Sometimes you will get cut solely by the clothes you are wearing the first day of recruitment. Its not something that honestly can be changed or anything wrong with you. They also are not being superficial. If the sorority decides that everyone wearing white shoes will not get an invitation its solely because they have to get rid of the numbers.

TRUTH 5: Some sororities will vote on you. I do know of some sororities that put your picture up, and by show of hands choose if you're coming back. Also sometimes they will have people that talked to you that day stand up and tell them every thing they dont like about you.

TRUTH 6: Blacklisting or "Blackballed" I've heard it called both things, and just because one sorority sees you out very drunk and making a fool of yourself does not mean every sorority will rule you out. There isn't a giant list that every sorority shares. But in saying that, word will pass around.

TRUTH 7: Sorority recruitment is very competitive, and if you make the right appearance the first couple of days, the last couple days you will be able to truly be selected based on personality and no longer superficial judgements.

FINAL AND MOST IMPORTANT TRUTH: The more girls you meet in the sorority prior to recruitment the more likely you are to make it to the last days. Now I know a lot of colleges highly regulate this, and call it "dirty" rushing, but there is nothing wrong with trying to make friends. Go out, have fun, and meet people. Go to a different fraternity house every night before recruitment. When you go to visit your college for freshman orientation. GO OUT. so many people don't realize how far ahead they can get in recruitment by making these relationships beforehand.

GOOD LUCK

Bad Recruitment Outfits

My favorite least favorite recruitment outfits! So sometimes girls have to be judgmental and this is my turn. Now I want to be clear that these outfits are not the girls that are wearing them fault that they got put on this list.

Any kind of floral dresses. NOT a fan.

Black and white is super cute with a red belt, but one girl wearing a dress the other in jeans is quite a confusing appearance. Is it a casual day or fancy day? What?
Not a fan of solid colored tshirts. If you're doing the tshirt look at least get your sorority letters monogrammed on it. Also bermuda shorts are a NO.
I'm really not a fan of dresses like these. They look super cheap, and I'm just never been a fan. Oh and cotton is awful in hot weather.
Business meeting outfits are not recruiting outfits. These color choices are too dark. Even if they are your sorority colors. Dark colors are instant turn-offs psychologically. Stick to bright lively welcoming colors.
Hate to be mean but I really dislike the skirts. Not complimentary to their body type, and lets be real it's not cute.
Not a fan of the bows. They clearly aren't belts because of how stiff they are.
Hate to say this but sweety on the left looks like Minnie Mouse in that skirt.
Once again the bows ruin the outfit.
No No No to the sweaters.
Black on Black on Black. I'm really not a fan.

Be extremely critical when choosing outfits. Make sure every last girl in your sorority is wearing an outfit that is flattering to their body type. And please please please do not match to the very last dress model.

Recruitment Outfits!

Hey Everyone!

I'm back with all of my favorite recruitment outfits! In case, you couldn't tell already I'm one of those weirdos that love recruitment! Now I know some colleges will have t-shirts to wear each day, and I'm very sorry but this post will not have anything to do with you ladies. Because I'm going to go through all of my favorite outfits that sororities will wear throughout recruitment. Also just because this post is more focused towards sororities doesn't mean that potential new members can not wear the same outfits.

Day 1 Outfits ( Casual Days )

This super simple cute outfits would be so comfortable to wear during the longest days, and for those who do fall recruitment you can definitely bear the awful summer heat.

I also love this idea of various shades of blue with white bottoms. Think how cute it would be if you did different shades of one of your sorority colors. Or if you just wore all your sorority colors with white bottoms.
Such a big fan of these matching belts, its so cute and ties all their outfits perfectly together. The only thing I would definitely change is the shoes. Wedges is pushing it for such a casual outfit.
I have slowly become obsessed with these oxfords. They would look so cute for spring recruitment, and some different bottoms. Think of some casual blue jeans or even white jeans with these tops! So adorable.
Ah! love love love love. The platform heels can simmer down a bit but I absolutely have fallen in love with the casual jeans with some heels look.
I also have started to really like this idea for a spring recruitment. Pair your sorority colored scarves with some jeans, and a white top, makes a very unique yet adorable look.
ADORABLE! I could do without the Sperrys but I'm in love with these!

Day 2 Outfits ( Less Casual Philanthropy Days)
Nothing I love more than Lilly Pulitzer! Minus the name tags and those hideous shoes this outfit is precious and perfect.
Love! Once again I'm not a big fan of platforms, but this is really simple and adorable. My only suggestion would be to make sure all the skirts were more A-line than pencil
Absolutely adorable!
I really like this idea, but I think color selection could have been a bit better.
Too cute! Peach and white outfits with wedges. Allows the girls to share personalities in the outfits they choose. This is adorable.
These ladies pull off the black skirt right! You have to make sure they look good on every single girl.
Day 3 Outfits (Cute Dress Days)
A red dress with nude wedges, and gold necklaces. Looks super cute, but I would stay away from something too tight.
Everyone wearing white blue and red. This is too cute and doesn't look overwhelming.
All navy! So easy to find and really cute. I love girls that have outfits like these and then various color statement necklaces. Its too cute.
Chiffon dress that are flowy with the same straps. By far one of my favorite ideas.
My favorite outfit combination so far. Yellow and White with gold statement necklace. Make it a little more Day 3 and throw in nude pumps. LOVE.

Day 4 Outfits ( Pref Night )
I know a lot of girls have required outfits to wear during preferential ceremonies, but there are definitely ways to make them unique!
Add some long pearls on some of your girls.
Have everyone in matching hair. But make sure its a very relaxed hairstyle that looks natural like curls.
White eyelets. Too cute.
Black with white accents. My only suggestion is to make sure everyone has the white accent.

My biggest pet peeve is matching shoes. You have to do it, and on preferential night its important to take it up to the formal notch, and black pumps are my favorite way to do it.

Sorority Of The Month: Alpha Omicron Pi

I'm really excited to get into this new fad of posting a new sorority every month with some things to learn about them, their history, and any really cute things that I've found.

So Alpha Omicron Pi (AOII) is the sorority I've chosen this month. I know some super awesome ladies from this sorority that go to colleges all over the southeast. Some at Vanderbilt, some at Georgia Southern, some at Alabama, some at Ole Miss. Literally everywhere. It's probably the most girls I know in the same sorority than my own.

GET TO KNOW AOII:

There are 54 chapters located in the southeast ranging from Texas to North Carolina, and from Tennessee to Florida.

Their color is cardinal red. Their jewel is the ruby. Flower is the red rose, and mascot is the panda.

If you want to learn more about their history and what is going on with their national council, you can follow the link here
